They survived almost daily prairie fires, lightning, heat, blizzards, snakes, grasshoppers, and boredom with tenacity, faith, and fortitude, and usually with a sense of humor. They lost half their children to disease and accidents and still they carried on. Hear their words and their stories. Our pioneer mothers.
Susan E. Church will present “The Grass is Near Readiness and So…We Set Forth,” at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, in the Event Center. She is a historian, retired museum executive director, and a speaker on westward migration, women’s roles in the 19th Century, and American Civil War topics. She has held many positions and is a nationally recognized Civil War historian.
