Outside is the best side!

In April 2015, the Duggans moved into our first house. The family’s first mission? Grow grass. Our new backyard was an overwhelming mountain of mud. I grew up in the country and there, growing grass wasn’t a priority. If we had it – great! If we didn’t – less to mow. Edward grew up in the city without a yard. Fast forward to 2015 and two newbie homeowners are standing in the lawn and garden section at Home Depot, heads tilted in confusion.

I am surprised (and proud!) to report that after nearly four months we have a beautiful, full lawn in the back and the front. Much of the credit goes to my husband’s hard work and the large amount of moisture the area received this season.

Grass at Meadowlark Hills has grown at an amazing rate all summer, as well. Because of the increased rainfall, half of the summer our lawn care professionals mowed twice a week! Typically, the grass is cut between 4.5 to 5 inches weekly, with a maximum cutting height of 5 inches (this is how the mower is set up) and the taller cut is healthier for the grass.

Something the Duggans haven’t had time for is landscaping around the house. Recently, Meadowlark Hills did some updating to the landscaping around the first garden apartment as you enter campus from Kimball Avenue. Plans to do additional landscaping to the other garden apartments have not been made at this time, but there is a possibility in future budget planning to include these areas.

See you next week and thanks for stopping by!
